In October, Blake agreed to let 9 of us (that’s a lot of employees for a small company!) leave Santa Monica for more than a week to hand place shoes and pass out skateboards on the TOMS + Element Shoe + Board Drop in Durban, South Africa.

After your first year at TOMS, you’re given the opportunity to see the One for One commitment come full circle. For many of us, the experience in South Africa was our first Shoe Drop.

Chapter 1: we prepare… and we go.

TOMS has been encouraging creativity from the start with the Style Your Sole program, but TOMS fans go beyond painting and sewing on shoes. They produce incredible rap videos, make clever accessories, bake impressive cakes, create beautiful art… all with the simple inspiration of One for One. Here are some of our favorite creative endeavors from committed fans.

9. TOMS fans don’t settle for posters and handouts, they find clever ways to spread the movement (especially on One Day Without Shoes!).

8. YUM! From Facebook, “TOMS are awesome, my sister just made me a special birthday cake of a TOMS shoe.”

7. One for One inspires all types of songs, from goofy campfire jam sessions to beautiful acoustic productions (and more… just keep reading…). This song was written by Jeremiah, who also joined TOMS in October on a Shoe Drop.

6. TOMS fans creatively share the One for One movement through their hobbies, like this self-titled TOMS Cycling Team.

The list continues with owls and raps… 5. HOW CLEVER. The cardboard inserts that come in TOMS boxes up-cycled to adorable owl ornaments, via a Twitter follower.

Isn’t this baby adorable? A friend of mine from the Tribeca Film Festival sent this to me, and I had to share. Last spring, For Tomorrow, the TOMS story, was featured along with other short films at Tribeca. We were so honored when the documentary was accepted, and it was an amazing experience every step of the way. So cool to see our friends at Tribeca supporting the One for One movement!
