A couple months ago, an amazing opportunity landed on our door step. I have to be honest, we’re fortunate to have a lot of great individuals approach TOMS and want to do collaborations or partnerships, but this one in particular was really cool, and we knew right away we had to move forward.

Dave Matthews Band has been pioneering the music industry for over 17 years. They have sold over 35 million albums worldwide and have toured thousands upon thousands of miles all over the world. For this, and many other reasons, we knew they would be a great compliment to the TOMS Vagabond Tour.

The Spring 2009 Vagabond Vans have been out for over a week and if you’ve already made it to one of their events, you’ve seen the DMB seal stamped on the side that says, “Official Soundtrack.” So what does that mean? When you watch the Vagabond’s weekly videos on the TOMS YouTube channel, you’ll hear Dave Matthews Band tunes… as well as some exclusive content. The band has also given us a stack of concert tickets to their shows, which the Vagabonds will be giving away at their events all semester long. Its so neat to have one of the most influential, progressive, forward-thinking, change-making bands in American culture supporting the TOMS One for One mission? It’s just amazing. We hope to soon see millions of Dave Matthews Band fans sporting TOMS and becoming part of this movement with us!

Already? We knew their planning time here at the HQ was going fly by… but now they’ve really driven away. Gone for an unpredictable 10 weeks of event-hosting, shoe-selling, couch-sleeping, and memory-making. When I tell you they are an eclectic, motivated, passionate, spunky, intelligent group of young people, I’m not doing them justice. My excitement for this Vagabond Tour is overflowing to the point that its becoming increasingly difficult to keep some things a secret. All I can say is- we’re taking this tour up a notch, and we can’t wait to watch this story unfold with you.

Go ahead and schedule some time out of your week to watch their weekly YouTube videos, check out new tour dates on their Facebook Page, and put yourselves in their shoes as they report on their journey right here on the TOMS blog…. because this tour is going to be more than the road-trip of a lifetime: its going to be a weekly dose of inspiration.

The road trip is an American tradition: a way to experience the diversity of culture and landscape that our incredible country has to offer. TOMS has indulged in the rustic tradition since 2007 with a variety of cross-country tours, all on a mission to share the concept of One for One.

In 2007, Blake traveled with intern Zak via Airstream, making pit stops at boutiques, Nordstrom, RV parks, water fountains, and more. The original tour boasts some hilarious videos thanks to the unpredictability of a classic road trip.

In the Spring of 2008, former interns Justin and Brett decided to pack a very small car with A LOT of shoes as they traveled to college campuses and small towns hosting events and telling everyone about TOMS.

This past October, TOMS launched the first ever (very official) Vagabond Tour. We rallied 5 teams of two to four people, loaded them up in some sick vans, and sent them all across the country to host Style Your Sole parties and For Tomorrow documentary screenings on high school and college campuses. They blew us away, and took the traditional idea of a road trip off the map: gathering over 2,000 contacts, pulling in 14,590 video views on YouTube, be-friended 560 fans on Facebook, and sold 4,940 shoes. They trucked through all sorts of terrain, they slept in their vans, and they inspired us all every week with their optimism and determination.

This Monday, January 12th, marks the arrival of our latest road-trippers: The Spring 2009 Vagabonds. They’re unofficially the 4th TOMS tour to dominate the US, and we’re anxious as ever to meet them all. We also get to meet all of our new HQ interns this Monday- the ones who will be our saving grace, day to day, here at the TOMS HQ. Today and tomorrow we’ll be sweeping our floors and preparing our packets to ensure all of our new family members get the welcome they deserve.
