More from TOMS Campus Club member, Harris, at the University of North Carolina about how to get tons of students stoked about wearing their TOMS…

The best thing a person can do after buying a pair of TOMS is to wear them. That is why we are encouraging everyone involved with the TOMS Campus Club in Chapel Hill to wear their TOMS on December 3rd. We have made this date an unofficial TOMS Day on our campus; as a reward for students who wear their shoes we are giving away coupons and gift certificates donated by local businesses. Let me explain how this works- we sent out an e-mail and created a Facebook event telling people to wear their TOMS on Thursday December 3rd. The exec committee of our club will be walking around campus all day writing down e-mail addresses of the people we see wearing TOMS. At the end of the day, the committee will get together, share e-mail addresses, and draw names randomly out of a hat. The winners will be notified via e-mail and they will receive their prizes at our next campus club meeting. By flooding our campus with people wearing TOMS, people will begin talking. Our goal is to have everyone at UNC know what TOMS are and what they stand for and the best way to accomplish this is to get people talking!

On a side note, our club is finally on track to become an official campus club! We are waiting to receive word that we have been approved. Once we are recognized by the university, we will be able to hold events on campus much easier and reserve rooms under our own name. The aim of this semester is to establish our club on campus and build a foundation for next semester’s club to build off of. I love every new experience that the UNC TOMS Club brings me!

Hey, my name is Harris Googe and I am a TOMS Campus Club member at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill! I’ll be blogging about my experience with TOMS Shoes and how my club and I are sharing the One for One movement with other students on our campus!

“Are you wearing socks?” Wriggling my toes in my brand new corduroy TOMS, I had certainly brought something different to my Tennessee high school. I had discovered them a few weeks before when visiting my best friend’s family in Los Angeles. No, these were not socks. They were my first pair of TOMS and this was my first opportunity to spread my knowledge of the One for One movement. Two years later, I’m a sophomore at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and I’m still spreading the word. Although nobody mistakes TOMS for socks anymore, I’m still finding people every day who have never heard of them. I was stalking the TOMS Web site, looking for anything new to read, when I discovered the Campus Clubs program. I am now a Campus Club member at UNC and we are busier than ever with our fledgling club of about 150 students (one of the fastest growing clubs on campus)! A few weeks ago, Blake came to Chapel Hill and we filled all 300+ seats of Gerrard Hall. I had spent an entire afternoon a few days before the event finger painting a plywood cube in our quad, a popular advertising method here. Finally, on the day of Blake’s visit, I was standing up in front of the crowd and could see about 60 people lingering outside the back doors just to catch a glimpse of one of the most successful entrepreneurs. I was in shock that TOMS had become so popular so fast, and that our club was taking off this quickly. Now, our club is preparing several events for the rest of the year in order to put TOMS on the rest of our fellow Tar Heels and on even more children! I can’t wait to see where this year takes us.

We’re excited to have Harris keep us posted on what’s happening on the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill campus! Visit the “Get Involved” section of the TOMS Web site to apply to join a TOMS Campus Club!
