When the end of the year rolls around, its perfectly justifiable to sit around and flip through old photos, watch those funny videos again, reminisce, tell good stories, and of course, make top ten lists for everything.

TOMS: How did you first hear of TOMS?
LUCID: I first heard about TOMS from a sales rep. I was actually looking for another particular brand of shoes and found the rep for them. It turned out that brand was not available in my area as another store already carried them. The sales rep suggested TOMS instead. The universe was conspiring in my favour that day!

T: What are your favorite TOMS you currently carry?
L: Personally, I wear the Stitchouts most often! Its the Wrap Boot that I think is pretty genius though…but they don’t make them in my size!

T: You recently went on a shoe drop. Tell us a little about your experience and how it affected you?
L: Wow…gotta a few hours? In December, I went on a shoe drop in Misiones in Argentina near the Iguazu Falls. I met with 12 amazing people from the US, Canada and Australia. We travelled to different schools in that area and distributed shoes to kids. We spent about an hour or more fitting individual kids with shoes. Then afterwards, we would have free time with our new friends playing, kicking a soccer ball around and for the most part hamming it up. There was a bit of a language barrier (especially for me) but that didn’t seem to matter as laughing is pretty universal. Seeing first hand the different conditions that other people live in was very humbling. The things that we take for granted every day became very apparent. The “problems” that I perceived myself to have everyday seemed petty compared to what some of the people I met have to deal with. Even more humbling was how happy these people were living in what we in North America would consider poverty. This further instilled my belief that money, though a provider of comfort and luxury, is not the source of happiness!

T: What was the inspiration behind your window display?
L: Another brand I carry, Sitka, provided a “wallpaper” that is west coast forest scene. It was actually from a photo taken by one of Sitka’s owners, Andrew Paine. In the photo of the display you can see it in the background. The display window extends around to the left and the theme continues with Sitka clothing on bust forms mounted on larger log rounds. I feel very fortunate to live in a naturally beautiful portion of the planet. This display is a reflection of that appreciation and respect that I have for Mother Nature. I must admit, cutting a tree out of the woods for the display seems to be a bit contradictory though.

T: Anything else our readers should know about Lucid?
L: Lucid is not unlike any independently owned clothing store in any other town. Maybe that’s a board store, maybe a more fashion boutique, perhaps its a retailer of eco friendly products (we are little bit of each of those). The goal with these businesses is to offer something different and unique to the people in that particular area. Also, to support the local culture, be it surfing, skating, arts, music or whatever the local scene is. Support your friendly neighbour store…we appreciate it! If you’d like to keep up with all things Lucid, you can find us on Facebook, Twitter, or our website.
