More from TOMS Campus Club member, Harris, at the University of North Carolina about how to get tons of students stoked about wearing their TOMS…

The best thing a person can do after buying a pair of TOMS is to wear them. That is why we are encouraging everyone involved with the TOMS Campus Club in Chapel Hill to wear their TOMS on December 3rd. We have made this date an unofficial TOMS Day on our campus; as a reward for students who wear their shoes we are giving away coupons and gift certificates donated by local businesses. Let me explain how this works- we sent out an e-mail and created a Facebook event telling people to wear their TOMS on Thursday December 3rd. The exec committee of our club will be walking around campus all day writing down e-mail addresses of the people we see wearing TOMS. At the end of the day, the committee will get together, share e-mail addresses, and draw names randomly out of a hat. The winners will be notified via e-mail and they will receive their prizes at our next campus club meeting. By flooding our campus with people wearing TOMS, people will begin talking. Our goal is to have everyone at UNC know what TOMS are and what they stand for and the best way to accomplish this is to get people talking!

On a side note, our club is finally on track to become an official campus club! We are waiting to receive word that we have been approved. Once we are recognized by the university, we will be able to hold events on campus much easier and reserve rooms under our own name. The aim of this semester is to establish our club on campus and build a foundation for next semester’s club to build off of. I love every new experience that the UNC TOMS Club brings me!

This past week, the TOMS Campus Club at U of A and the SIFE Business Club teamed up to educate students about Podoconiosis and help TOMS put more shoes on children’s feet. The club members built and placed three installations on campus with facts about Podo and what students can do to get involved with the One for One movement. Earlier in the week, over 350 students gathered on campus, along with the U of A Wildcat mascot, for a one mile barefoot walk with Hanson. The guys even played a free show at the bookstore afterwards and hung out with fans to sign autographs. The major event, held Thursday November 12 and titled U of A Gives Back, Why Ethiopia?, recruited students from all over campus to come have their TOMS customized and soak up the sunshine with like-minded classmates. 18 artists were there hand-painting shoes, creating “some of the best custom TOMS I’ve ever seen!” said TOMS Campus Manager Autumn Petersen. At the end of the week, over 400 pairs of TOMS were sold, guaranteeing over 400 matched pairs for children in need.

Maddi, a past TOMS HQ intern, the TOMS Campus Club, and the SIFE Business Club did an extraordinary job at planning and executing a successful, fun, and memorable campus event. Kudos from TOMS HQ!

Hi guys! My name is Michael and I am a TOMS Shoes Campus Club member in Maryland. This is my “TOMS story” of how I got involved…

It all started a few months back when the TOMS movement walked into my life quite unexpectedly. Late one night in early January to be exact; I was poking around the internet, I can’t recall how but I happened to find myself on the TOMS Shoes website. Instantly I was hooked, ideas shot through my head, “Who are these people?” “Wow! These shoes are awesome, I want a pair!” “I wish I could be a part of this.” Little did I know that I could be. I looked around the site even more and found a link to get involved. “That’s it! I’ll do it.” I watched the mission video and learned all I could, dreaming of being in Africa giving shoes to children in need and seeing their smiling faces. Quickly I applied to be a Campus Club member and waited anxiously for TOMS to contact me back. A few tedious days later I got an email from TOMS. I was so ecstatic, I was contacted by TOMS! A few weeks later I was on the TOMS team making a difference in the world. Since that first moment I have been tested to my limits, organizing barefoot walks and Style Your Sole events. TOMS has really made me realize what I am capable of.

These days you can usually catch me in a pair of my TOMS, the Dave Matthews edition are my favorite! You can ask any of my friends, more than once I have told them the TOMS story of how it started and what they do. I am working hard at transforming my community and still dreaming of that day I will be helping kids and seeing their smiling faces.

We’re excited to have Michael keep us updated this semester on TOMS events and stories from his high school in Maryland! Visit the Get Involved section of the TOMS website to apply to be a campus club member.
