Hello people of the interwebs! Guess what? We are still in Texas! Surprise!

I’m typing this en route to North Richland Hills for an event tonight. We drove in from Houston where we had an event last night! It was pretty much the greatest thing ever. This church has pledged to give 10,000 shoes in Uganda when they go there on a mission trip in August! I was inspired by how passionate everyone was about TOMS. They even have a TOMS committee that sets up a table to sell before and after church every Sunday. Legit, if you ask me. And you didn’t, but I decided to tell you anyways. Also, we got the chance to meet Jill! She’s one member of the TOMS family that we hadn’t gotten to meet because she’s mostly in Texas. She was great, and had a lot of positive, encouraging things to say to us. I personally can’t wait to see her in LA in May!

On Monday night/Tuesday morning, we got the chance to spend a little bit of time with the Southwest Vagabonds! Now, you might be saying, “but Tia. Fort Worth isn’t Southwest!” And you would be correct. But, compared to, let’s say Maine, it is indeed Southwest. It was wonderful reunion, and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. We were needing a little vaga-love, and that they came with. We had breakfast, and I made this:

God Bless Texas! We only have a few more weeks in this great state too! Then we head to the rest of the Midwest! You guys have big shoes to fill. I’m not sure how fun a Kansas shaped Waffle would be. Although, you never know…

Earlier this week, Hannah and I were invited to attend the Grammy Nominations concert at the Nokia Theatre. On Tuesday night, we got a call from Stefan, our incredible campus rep at Azusa Pacific, asking us if we’d like tickets for the show. Are you kidding me? Do you realize who you’re speaking to? WHAT TIME SHOULD WE BE THERE?

Since we had an event in Irvine on Wednesday (a STELLAR event might I add!) we did a quick change into some gowns in a campus restroom and hightailed it back to LA for the show. Not only did we fulfill our lifelong (ok… yearslong) dream of seeing the Jonas Brothers live and in person, we got to watch some of the biggest names in music perform hits by past Grammy winners. Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, the Foo Fighters, and Celine Dion sang their hearts out and announced the nominees for the February 8th Grammy Awards. Oh, and did I mention that the lovely Miss Taylor Swift hosted—WITH LL COOL J?! For the record, these ladies looooove cool James!

The highlight of the night was when John Mayer and B.B. King performed together. It was pretty much the most mind-blowing duet I’ve ever heard. I can honestly say I’ll die happy having seen those two together. MIND-BLOWING! After the Grammys concert ended, John Mayer decided to play another hour-long set for the crowd. He performed alone, without a backing band, and made me fall in love with him all over again.

He began the set with ‘Waiting On The World To Change’ but with a few lyrical modifications. My heart nearly exploded when he gave a speech about how we are finally, FINALLY entering a time when our generation’s voice is being heard. He sang ‘there’s no more waiting, waiting on the world to change’ and I had tears in my eyes as he spoke about how excited he was to be alive right now. To live in a time when we’re all doing our part to make this the world we want to exist in.

The performance just further solidified my belief in what we’re doing here at TOMS. Everyday, we’re all working towards the greater good. We all want to live in a world of peace, love, and happiness—and our generation is making that happen. One by one, and One for One– Our voice has been heard and we’re not taking that lightly.

Hello TOMS world! We thought it was a time to do a tour life update. Well, we’ve been listening to a lot of Katy Perry lately. And the new Jonas Brothers song, Lovebug, is insanely good. Listen to it. You might fall in love a little. Good music is key to surviving three months in a van with anyone. A LOT of TI, a lil Wayne, and plenty of Motown. Plus, a healthy dose of Hanson—for good measure.

Oh, and plenty of Tom Petty. Tom Petty is KEY.

All of the music we listen to reminds us of the people we’ve met, the places we’ve been, and the places we’ve come from. I don’t mean to brag, but my iPod is really well stocked. I mean… it’s good. So, suffice it so say, we’re having a great time on the open road.

We have a bunch of events in Arizona and we’ve had a blast staying with our ASU Campus Rep, Maddi, and her amazing housemates. In addition to throwing what was, literally, our hottest event yet—we carved pumpkins. We went on a costume shopping expedition involving several Disney princesses, three blind mice, a blown-out tire, and the assistance of southern gentleman. Don’t worry Bear, it wasn’t the VagaVan!

Today is Halloween and these Vagabonds looove holidays. We’re ALL wearing TOMS with our costumes tonight and you should too! Take pictures and post ‘em on the Vagabond page on Facebook!

http://www.facebook.com/pages/TOMS-Vagabonds/40977197144

Have a great time tonight. Be safe. And remember, for every piece of candy you take, give another one away. One for One.

Happy Halloween!

We’re back in LA for a couple of days restocking shoes, catching up on a little work, and booking more events. Tour life is completely insane! It’s a little disarming waking up in a new place everyday; there have certainly been a few mornings when I woke up completely confused by my surroundings, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

On Friday, we spent the day at San Juan Hills High School. The event was a blast. Hundreds of students showed up and we had several musical performances, a bunch of artists, Mexican food, and the TRKY clothing guys on hand to customize TOMS. I love the collaborative events– it’s great to see that there are other brands, organizations, and individuals with the same mindset as Team TOMS; let’s change the world for the better, one step at a time. Plus, we sold 86 pairs of shoes! We weren’t sure what to expect from our first on-campus high school event, but the bar has officially been raised; SJHHS killed it!

We hosted an event in Newport Beach on Sunday night, which I can only sum up as unbelievable! The venue, the newly renovated St. Andrew’s church, was perfect for a Style Your Sole event! We screened the documentary indoors in a SWEET lounge, and then had artists customizing shoes outside on the patio. The line was ridiculous for custom designs, but everyone was more than happy to wait it out for a unique piece of wearable art. HUGE thank you to all the other organizations that came out to support the event– 31 Bits, Krochet Kids, and the Almond crew– you guys were great! We wish you all the success in the world. Special thanks to our campus rep, Alli, for all that she did. You ROCKED this and we cannot wait to come back and work with you again. PS: Thanks for the amazing goody bag you packed for us; the licorice is AMAZING.

Oh, AND THE VERY BEST PART– we sold 100 pairs of shoes! Even as I type this, days later, I can’t help but shake my head in disbelief! 100 kids are going to have shoes on their feet because of all of you that came out to the event. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We’re super stoked to continue the tour. On Friday, we have an event at Azusa Pacific. Saturday, we’re at Pepperdine and on Sunday, we’re at LMU.

Check out a few photos from the last two events!
