Its always exciting to spend time with President Clinton, but this past weekend at the second annual CGI U was extra special. The energy of the thousands of students that attended was unreal, and they were just as inspiring to me as TOMS and the One for One business model is to them. Here’s a link (and a time log- the entire piece is 90 minutes long) to the Opening Plenary, where I had the opportunity to speak in front of 1,300+ of the best students from around the world. The past few weeks have been amazing: Having the opportunity to speak in front of the most influential people in the business world at the TED conference and being inspired by their knowledge, and then speaking in front of the most passionate students in the world and being inspired by their energy, leaves me absolutely humbled.

This summer kicked off with a 20+ group of excited young fresh faces from around the country: the TOMS Shoes Summer ‘08 Intern Class. They boldly agreed to live as one big happy family in Marina del Rey, work full-time (sans compensation), and dominate the challenges they would be given. Each morning they filed in and sat together at table that extends all the way down the center of the TOMS office. They brought with them the repetitious tapping of computer keys, some hilarious belly laughs from key individuals, and an eagerness to rise to the occasion. The noise has steadily been decreasing for the past 2 weeks- the Summer ‘08 Intern Class is slowing shrinking. Tomorrow will be their last official day as a TOMS Shoes intern. Hopefully they leave with fire under their feet and a plethora of new knowledge, and the comfort of knowing they are part of the greater TOMS family.

Back to School

I know I’ve mentioned how great our interns here at HQ are, but I also need to let you all know about our dedicated Campus Reps. TOMS Shoes has young people across the country volunteering their time to spread the word about our company. They are our High School reps and our College Reps, and they throw super Style Your Sole parties and educate their communities about One for One. The school year is about to rev up, and we already have some great Campus Reps on board for Fall. Now begins their hard work and planning to make a difference this semester. I have total faith in all of them to represent TOMS Shoes in the best way possible, and to help get more shoes on people’s feet around the world!

this is going to be a blast…

Our HQ welcomed our first batch of Vagabonds yesterday. The TOMS Vagabond Tour will launch this October: a fleet of 20 awesome ambassadors, who will travel the country, throw events at college campuses, and get everyone super excited about TOMS. When I first heard we were upping the anty on our college tour this year (and giving it a total BA name), I honestly wanted to quit my job and apply- these kids are going to have the time of their life meeting so many new people and inspiring them through One for One.

I suppose I’ll just have to live vicariously through their blogs this Fall… and so should you, so keep posted! As for now, they’ll be hanging out with us in Santa Monica planning out the ultimate road trip.

So jealous!
