Brad is currently responsible for TOMS Boutique sales and our relationship with Whole Foods Market and recently shared his story on the official WFM blog (we brought his story here to share with all of you!). He is passionate about social entrepreneurship, simple community based living, cooking, organic gardening, music playing (guitar, banjo, pedal steel, piano), and tattoos…more tattoos. Read his full bio here.

When I started working at TOMS (when the company was only about 4 weeks old), the first thing that I said to our fearless leader, Blake, was “Whole Foods is a company that we must partner with as they will not only understand what we are doing, but they will want to be a part of it as well.”

Eighteen months later, after countless hours of hard work, we launched our first exclusive collection of Eco-Friendly/Vegan shoes with Whole Foods Market. Since then, we have continued to explore the world of environmentally friendly materials, along with launching a shoe for those who practice a vegan lifestyle.

Brad sporting his favorite Cordones

In just under two years, through the Whole Foods partnership and the purchases of caring customers, we have given just over 37,240 pairs of new shoes to children in need.

It is amazing the needs that these shoes have met and continue to meet around the world. In areas of deep poverty, shoes can play a role that goes far beyond comfort, including access to education and prevention of disease (bare feet make children susceptible to a wide range of diseases and parasites). It has truly blown me away how the Whole Foods Market team members have rallied around these needs, becoming some of the most dedicated, excited and passionate advocates for the One for One mission that I have come across in my almost four years here at TOMS.

A GIVE window made out of TOMS at a Whole Foods Market location

We are honored and excited to partner with such a great company, who is not only working to help bring us better quality food for what we put IN our bodies, but also for what we put ON our bodies.

So, live fully, love others unconditionally, and if you happen to run into your neighborhood Whole Foods Market for some locally sourced tomatoes, basil or rainbow chard, make sure to stop by the Whole Body department to become part of the One for One movement.

“Before leaving to go live in Mexico for 6 weeks, I went on a search for a great pair of shoes to bring with me, trying to pack as light as possible and only bring a couple of pairs of shoes with me. I friend of mine told me about TOMS and I researched trying to find a store that carried them in the Chicago land area. Found a store in my neighborhood and went to purchase them right away. Not only did I fall in love with the style of shoe, a light cloth shoes with a leather insole and a nice high arch (I am very tall with a very narrow foot so the high arch is amazing), but I feel in love with the philosophy of TOMS and how they give shoes to children in need. I knew this was a good brand with a good cause. So I packed up my TOMS and headed south of the border.”

So how did this pair of black TOMS make it all the way to the Queen’s palace in London?

Fox, the gentleman in these photos, recently received a humanity award from the Queen of England for his work with the Jost van Dykes Preservation Society and efforts to preserve the environment and local culture in Puerto Rico. His wife Tessa knew that although Foxy preferred to spend his days barefoot, he would definitely need the perfect pair of shoes for this special occasion. Enter TOMS.

“Fox typically wears NO Shoes and is always uncomfortable in them so we had a problem finding something to go with the robes we ordered from Africa for the presentation at Buckingham Palace, ” says Tessa. “As his “Dresser” I was looking for something simple and plain and comfortable… and they looked as if they would be comfortable and simple for his big feet!”

Where do your TOMS take you?

We entitled this trip CARMTOALT. It stands for Cody and Ross’ Motorcycle Trip of a LifeTime. From Oklahoma City Cody and I headed west. We had a tentative plan with not all the details filled in. We planned to shoot from the hip, stay with friends, family and family of friends we had not met, and camp when needed. Loaded down with only the bare necessities, we embarked on a trip so insightful and surreal that we could not have possibly imagined the impact this journey would have on our lives.

I had been a member of the ‘TOMS club’ for 8 months, so much so that for the forty days of Lent I didn’t wear any other shoes, just TOMS, even the one day it snowed. So it naturally seemed right to wear them on the trip. Cody decide to take his pair and I had the tough decision which one of mine to take. I find that my gray TOMS are suitable in any situation, being so versatile and comfortable is the reason I brought them; they look classy and are easy to pack. After three days of riding I had a nice tan line on the top of my foot, which has not faded. Having the TOMS flag with us, we knew that there would be great photos opportunities on this cross country adventure. Also, showing the pictures would be a good opportunity to explain the ‘One for One’ mission of TOMS to anyone who didn’t know.

Most trips that people take are about the destination, what will happen when we get there. This was about the journey, what will happen each day. We discovered the western half of our country, riding across almost every landscape America has to offer, and more importantly discovering ourselves. This trip was something that will never be forgotten, and although our motorcycle journey has come to a close, the things we have learned and experiences shared will live on as we travel this road we call life.
