For some of us, “Back to School” means dusting off the alarm we haven’t used in months, trading our bathing suits for “real clothes,” and turning over our weekend movie cash for investments in crisp new text books. But its also the time of year we welcome a few key pieces to our fall wardrobe to keep us stylin’ through the coming months. When you think of the miles you’ll cover on your college campus this semester or all the errands that arise during a semester of deadlines, football games, and moving in and out of dorms, can’t you just picture yourself in your most comfortable pair of TOMS? Step in to this semester with a statement of optimism: proudly tell your new flat-mate, your T.A., and your pledges that the stellar pair of new shoes on your feet mean that a child in need will be receiving a pair on your behalf.

The TOMS Fall line is even named after iconic authors, so of course your English teacher will love you from day 1. Feeling traditional? TOMS Classic styles are perfect year-round. Paint on your school logo or stitch your mascot’s name to show your pride on game day!

Wearing TOMS on your first day back on campus or at the opening game of the season? Have all your TOMS hanging in a sweet new shoe-organizer in your tiny dorm room closet? We want to see your photos! Email them to Ashley.Powell@TOMSshoes.com or upload them to the TOMS Facebook Page…. really…. stop procrastinating.

We often answer inquiries of, “How can I get involved? How can I help?” with a reminder to wear your TOMS everyday and share the One for One mission. On April 16th, however, we want you to leave your shoes at the door. Walk barefoot in an effort to create awareness about the impact a simple pair of shoes can have on one’s life. One Day Without Shoes was established in 2008, primarily on campuses around the US, as students rallied together for a one mile barefoot walk. This year, TOMS wants to inspire all individuals to take part. Perhaps you kick off your shoes during an afternoon meeting, or you walk 2 blocks barefoot, or carry your shoes in your hand just long enough for someone to ask, “Why?”

Walking is the primary mode of transportation in developing countries, and children have to walk miles for food, water, or medical help.

The leading plague in developing countries is soil-transmitted parasites.

Shoes prevent cuts and sores from unsafe roads and contaminated soil.

Often, children cannot attend school barefoot- shoes are a required part of a student’s uniform.

Its always exciting to spend time with President Clinton, but this past weekend at the second annual CGI U was extra special. The energy of the thousands of students that attended was unreal, and they were just as inspiring to me as TOMS and the One for One business model is to them. Here’s a link (and a time log- the entire piece is 90 minutes long) to the Opening Plenary, where I had the opportunity to speak in front of 1,300+ of the best students from around the world. Some photos below, too.

Watch the video

40:12 – Pres Clinton introduces me
55:25 – Pres Clinton asks me, “Why shoes? Why a business, not a charity?”
80:10 – Pres Clinton asks us, “Where do you want to be in 5 years?”

For those of you who weren’t able to make it to Austin this past weekend, I challenge you to match the passion and determination that the students who attended represent. TOMS has campus rep programs that empower students to further the One for One mission on their own campuses, or even here at our HQ in LA: www.TOMSshoes.com/jointheteam.

The past few weeks have been amazing: Having the opportunity to speak in front of the most influential people in the business world at the TED conference and being inspired by their knowledge, and then speaking in front of the most passionate students in the world and being inspired by their energy, leaves me absolutely humbled.
