living the one for one dream

March 4th, 2009 by carminSE

Can you believe it? It’s been a week since we first put the pedal to the metal in the Team SE Vaga-Van! Liz, Sloan and I are happy to report that we not only survived the trek from California to Florida but had a blast along the way! I’m talking we’ve eaten amazing Cuban food, seen the world’s largest set of praying hands, and even bought hand-made moccasins (which we would of course never even dream of wearing until the Vagabond tour ends).

Our Coast to Coast adventures began by hosting our first ever 09′ SE SYS at Sloan’s Alma Matter, Florida State University. Liz and I were given the Tallahassee grand tour, got to hang out at many of Sloan’s favorite local joints and proudly ate slices of pizza bigger than our heads! We’d like to extend big thanks to FSU campus rep, Kelly, who not only provided some amazing accommodations, but was more than willing to roll with the punches when her outdoor “Fresh Fest” event was met with some pretty unpredictable weather. We tried to take her hostage as the fourth member of team SE, but unfortunately had to leave her behind (a girl’s gotta graduate).

From FSU we made our way to Valdosta, Ga. and although we arrived in the wee hours of the morning, our new friend and TOMS campus rep. Abby met us with open arms and warm Southern hospitality! Abby’s event was awesome; she partnered with a local non-profit coffee house that graciously provided us with a huge space to set up shop; complete with a sweet movie screen to show the “For Tomorrow” documentary, and an amazing sound system to of course blast DMB music! Abby’s event brought in both TOMS fanatics and folks who had never heard of the TOMS One for One movement!

After a fabulous week of making new friends and hosting SYS parties, Team SE is ready to head down to Miami (I can hear the Will Smith tunes already)! In between events and retail stops you can be sure to find the three of us soaking up the warm sun and of course enjoying authentic salsa music. We’d like to let Carolyn from team NW know that we’ll be thinking of her while we dance (if you didn’t know, Carolyn is an expert on all things Salsa).

Stay tuned in the weeks ahead as we continue our tour of the South East. But for now, instead of “Adios,” we’d like to extend a huge “Hasta Luego!”

Mucho Amor.

-Carmin, Liz and Sloan.
