just driving through the desert…

September 30th, 2008 by vagabondlaura

What did we do Day 1? Well besides crying and saying goodbye to our wonderful TOMS Vagabond family… we drove through the desert. A very hot, dry, HOT, barren desert. Welcome to Arizona. Who even knew America looked like that? It was almost something you’d imagine Mars to look like especially with the wind energy farms. Woah. Drive through that with two hours of sleep under your belt and tell me that doesn’t look creepy… What else happened: Lunch at a gas station Subway that had a 24 hour Chinese massage room. Played with all our new electronics. Called TOMS Headquarters to make sure they knew we missed them. Kelsey attempted six times to leave one smile voicemail for her campus rep. Try saying “Vagabond Van” five times fast. Might sound like “Vagabond Band”… which would be a cool idea. Mike Hammer? Work on that. I’m a pretty mean tambourine player and Kelsey can play the kazoo.

We feel so lucky to be on the road representing TOMS Shoes and telling everyone about the TOMS Story. Just last night we had the opportunity to share it with the ice cream scooper at Coldstone Creamery. She was in love with the One for One promise TOMS delivers and vowed to visit the website as soon as she got home from work. Any interaction we have with people can turn them into one more supporter of TOMS. What an awesome pressure to have on our shoulders.

We’re having a great time here in Chandler, AZ visiting with a co-worker’s mother. She has been so hopsitable and kind to the both of us. She’s about to show us the sights in this area so have a great day everyone! We’re looking forward to blogging more often, sharing our pictures and videos with you, and joining each other in changing the world. Not too shabby, eh? :)
